- The name of the town is derived from the Mansoor herb which grows in the foothills of Himalayas.
- Mussoorie, during British Era, was the most exclusive club in India, regularly visited by the British Elite officers, Kings and Governers as their favourite holiday destination.
- Band Stand at the Library Bazaar stands as a cheerful rememberance of the town’s shimmery past when the bands would play for the crowd all night long.
- Char Dukan, the four tea stalls which sell a lot of famous books by Ruskin Bond, who is a regular visitor here. Their parathas, sandwiches and pancakes with maple syrup are amazing.
- Mussoorie was discovered by Captain Frederick Young, who served in the British army and Mr. FJ Shore, Joint Magistrate of Doon valley in the year 1893.
- When India was under British Rule, one cannon was mounted atop the Gun Hill in Mussoorie and was fired everyday at 12 noon. This helped the people to adjust their watches accordingly.
- Lal Tibba or the Red Hill is located at an impressive altitude of 8000 feet above sea level and is the highest vantage point of Mussoorie. From Lal Tibba, you can have 360 degree view of the hill station.
- Mussoorie was one of the favoured tourist destinations of the Nehru family who used to frequently visit this magical place during 1920-40s. They always used to stay at the luxurious Savoy Hotel.
- In 1959 when the 23-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was exiled due to from Tibet by China, he came to Mussoorie to setup a Tibetan deported government. Mussoorie had the honour of becoming ‘His Holiness’ Dalai Lama’s first home in India.
- In September 2015, Mussorie became the first free Wifi Hill Station in India when the Uttarakhand government partnered with Reliance Jio to provide free wireless connectivity; but only on cellphones.
- Lambi dhar Mines in Mussoorie is considered to be one of the most haunted places in India.
